Why Practiced?

Because we just get this stuff.

We know that BIM and Revit are a connected system of parts that all affect each other. Materials, layers, parameters, graphics — they all work together.

Revit and BIM promise coordination and precision; but anyone who’s worked with them knows it’s not always that simple. What starts as a clean, elegant model can quickly turn into a tangle of inconsistent standards, scattered content, and bloated files that slow your team down. Even when you know what’s gone wrong, it can be hard to know where to start.

That’s why it’s important to have a knowledgeable partner like Practiced. We speak Revit and can help, regardless of where you are in your BIM journey.

don’t just patch problems;
build Complete,
Systematic solutions.

Practiced BIM is more than a support service; we’re your partner dedicated to helping BIM work for you. We have years of hands-on experience building high-quality tools, templates, and content designed around how architects, engineers and construction teams really work. And when you need help, you won’t be stuck searching YouTube for answers — you’ll have real, on-demand support from people who built and understand your standards and setup.

Practiced Values:

So many AEC firms have abandoned their values to pursue elaborate projects or yoked their staff to their desks to meet impossible deadlines. We always want to do good work but not at the expense of our people or our values. And we believe that finding ways to make better systems and solve problems works better than yelling to improve efficiency.

Creativity

Solving problems isn’t all brute force. Sometimes the best solutions aren’t what we expect. That’s why we do our best work exploring new ideas, motivated by the thrill of discovery.

Systems

We look for the connections between things so we can better understand the whole, and the parts. BIM & Revit are all about systems and connections. That’s why we always strive to find system solutions to system problems.

Curiosity

Our experience has shown us the value of asking questions and having an open mindset. We accomplish more by understanding the way things work and the way they could work.

Humanity

No one has ever been humiliated into excellence. We work to understand our clients needs as humans and we never work with teams or partners that don’t share our approach.

Founder, Owner

Dan’s been building 3D models since before BIM was a buzzword. He got his start more than twenty-five years ago, making 3D models for friends and clients with Form-Z on an old PowerMac G3 — back when “render time” meant you went to make a sandwich.

After studying architecture at Washington University in St. Louis, Dan spent nearly two decades working for top architecture and design firms such as Selldorf Architects and Peter Pennoyer Architects, as a project manager on everything from elaborate high-end residences to large-scale institutional and commercial buildings.

Somewhere along the way, he realized he loved the process of making technology work for design. That led to a focus on Revit, BIM, and digital workflows — developing tools, standards, and systems that helped his colleagues spend less time troubleshooting and more time making cool stuff. He has led implementations of pretty much every kind of technology from VOIP phone systems to OpenAsset to Sharefile.

Dan also brings a strong IT background to the mix, with experience in everything from building and managing Windows networks to deploying and integrating enterprise scale projects like VOIP phone systems and complex ERP and CRM systems like Deltek and Vantagepoint.
